3D – UX / UI Design
Real time visualization software for extraction platform
About the project
The technology used to extract the liquid and gas from underground is very advanced. However, the client needed to be more efficient in order to better manage the time of use of the drill bit. This activity has a very high cost for the oil companies and the drill bits need a very high maintenance. It is therefore vital to know at all times the type of subsoil being drilled.
The problem
Not being able to know exactly in a visual way the context in which the drilling is taking place meant huge losses of money and delays in raw material deliveries for the client.
They needed to improve the software in order to be more efficient in this task.
The solution
Create a UI that allows to see real-time drilling levels as well as a 3D representation of the drill bit. In addition, the drill bit would have to replicate the exact situation that is living below the surface for a better context understanding.
The strategy
The strategy seemed simple enough: use the customer’s existing software and improve it. But adding new functionality to existing software always gets complicated. We had to develop true-to-life 3D models. In addition, the VUI had to display the animation in real time along with the rest of the parameters.

The drill
this was the most important visual part as the context under which it unfolds hundreds of meters below the ground are the key to determine the success or failure of the drilling.
Therefore, reproducing a scale model that reflects at a glance everything that is going on was key.

The subsoil
In the same way, the different layers through which the drill bit passed had to be represented in a very visual way. Engineers have to know at all times the type of material the drill bit is dealing with.
